As a teacher it is not always easy to engage your students so that they are still learning but they are interested and participating in what you are trying to teach. Many teachers know that their students are not always interested in what they are assigned and many times children do not see the purpose behind what they are learning. However, you must find a way to make school more fun.
If you are teaching older children, you might consider incoorperating modern day interests into whatever you are teaching. If you are teaching Romeo and Juliet to a group of highschool students, ask the students to rewrite a section of the play’s dialog using only the characters of a text message.
Another way to engage older students is to play a game like jeopardy. You might think that high school students are to old to play games but you would be wrong. No one is every to old to play games. Rather than just going over something that you read in a history book, turn the class into a jeopardy game. Kids are much more likely to read the assignment next time if they think they will get to do something fun.
Games are a great way to engage smaller children as well. Little kids learn the best when they are playing. Rather than teaching the days of a week and having them memorize them, make up a little song to help them remember what day comes next. When kids are learning math skills have races where kids do problems on the board rather than handing out worksheets.
A great way to put learning into practice is to show the kids how they can use their new skills. When you are teaching fractions, have the kids make something that they have to measure out. They will have fun and learn at the same time.
